BPFI National Payments Conference 2024

Thank you to all who attended the second BPFI National Payments Conference on Monday 4th March in the Convention Centre Dublin.

This sellout event was moderated by Gillian Byrne, BPFI Head of Payments, with a welcome address from the BPFI President Cathy Bryce, Managing Director Capital Markets, AIB. EU Commissioner Mairead McGuinness gave the opening keynote address providing an updated perspective on critical agendas such as payment innovation, digitisation, regulation, and financial crime. The closing remarks were given by Yvonne Barrie, Director of Group Payments and Business Continuity Management, Bank of Ireland.

The first panel Exploring the Dynamic Irish Payments Landscape delved into the transformative landscape of payments. Vasileios Madouros, Deputy Governor, Monetary and Financial Stability, Central Bank of Ireland gave the opening remarks. This panel was moderated by Susan Kelly, Department of Finance with panellists Barry Manning, IPC Chair, Matt Phillips, Nixdorf, Nasir Ahmed, Swift and David Kilbride, Stripe.

Uniting Against Financial Crime – Insights from Industry Experts panel was moderated by Jenny Pattwell, EY who was joined by Charlotte Pardou, Swift, Dave Byrne, PTSB, David Capezza, Visa and Mike Haley, Cifas. Here the panel shared their insights on the intricate relationship between legislation, its dual impact on both combating criminals and assisting law enforcement, and how enhanced collaboration serves as a protective shield for customers in this relentless fight against financial crime.

Our Fireside Chat: Payments for Progress: Harnessing Financial Transactions as a Force for Good examined the transformative power of payments as a force for good. The opening remarks were given by Jennifer Coyne, Legal Lead Europe, Square and the panel was moderated by Niamh Cunningham, who chatted with Square Lory Kehoe, Blockchain Ireland and Colm O’Monachain, Deloitte.

The final panel Navigating Beyond Instant Payments discussed the future of finance, going beyond Instant Payments. The panel was moderated by Michael Fox, J.P. Morgan with panellists Anne Marie McKiernan, Central Bank of Ireland, J.P. Morgan, Joe Morley, Truelayer and William Olgiati, Amazon
