Project Manager

Context:

Banking & Payments Federation Ireland (BPFI), together with its affiliates, the Federation of International Banks in Ireland (FIBI) and the Fintech & Payments Association of Ireland (FPAI), is the principal voice of banking, payments, and fintech in Ireland. It mobilises the sectors’ collective resources and insights to deliver value and benefit to members, enabling them to build competitive and sustainable businesses that support the economy, customers, and society.

BPFI is seeking to appoint a Project Manager to support the delivery of strategic collaboration programmes across the Collaboration, Innovation & Payments Team.

The role will initially focus primarily on Zippay, Ireland’s bank-led instant mobile payments service, supporting its continued development from a live P2P service into a broader bank-led payments platform. This will include customer adoption, product evolution, P2B deployment and future growth opportunities. Over time, the Project Manager may also support other BPFI collaboration programmes and member-led initiatives, depending on business priorities.

A central part of the role will be managing collaboration across participating members, external stakeholders, vendors, partners and, where relevant, regulators. The successful candidate will need to bring strong project/programme management discipline, excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to create structure across complex multi-party initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead & Coordinate day-to-day activities of assigned BPFI Collaboration Programmes, ensuring that workstreams are clearly planned, risks and dependencies are actively managed, and decisions are progressed through the appropriate governance structures.
  • Project Management and Governance responsibility for producing high-quality materials for steering groups, member forums and working groups, and for ensuring disciplined follow-through from meetings, workshops and agreed actions.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Management managing collaboration across participating members, vendors, external partners and relevant stakeholders, supporting BPFI’s neutral role in helping members align around shared, non-competitive objectives.
  • Product Roadmap Development supporting the development of product roadmaps and service-development workstreams, initially focused on Zippay’s evolution from P2P into broader account-to-account payment services.
  • Adoption, Growth and Partner Support by helping to assess new opportunities, potential partners and use cases, and by ensuring that product, commercial, operational and stakeholder questions are captured and progressed through the programme. The role will help translate emerging opportunities into structured plans, clear decision points and measurable outcomes

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years project management experience in financial services, payments, banking, fintech or another regulated environment.
  • Experience in managing complex multi-stakeholder programmes.
  • Strong governance, planning, risk, issue and dependency management skills.
  • Excellent written communication and ability to prepare senior-level materials.
  • Strong facilitation, action tracking and follow-through.
  • Curious and open-minded about the practical use of AI and digital tools to improve programme delivery, stakeholder coordination, research, reporting and decision support.
  • Experience in payments is desirable but not essential e.g. account-to-account payments, SEPA, instant payments, open banking, cards, merchant acquiring or digital banking.

 Competencies:

  • Excellent organisational and planning capability, with a proven ability to manage multiple concurrent activities, including complex dependencies and interdependencies.
  • Structured and analytical approach to work, with a strong focus on delivery, execution and achieving defined outcomes.
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborative and effective team contributor, working across business and project functions to deliver aligned and cohesive outcomes.
  • Demonstrates the ability to bring clarity, structure and direction within complex or ambiguous environments, supporting informed decision-making and progress.
  • Comfortably engages across a wide range of subject areas, including programme and project delivery, product, commercial, regulatory and technical domains.
